Authentic Learning
The aim of this symposium is to bring to together a selected group of practitioners and academics from a wide variety of disciplines in order to focus on the question of ‘what constitutes authentic learning?’ In a world where the knowledge base is expanding exponentially and can be accessed at the click of a mouse, the notion of what constitutes authentic learning has become critical in order that learners across all ages and in all forms of learning environments have the opportunity to access optimal learning environments and ideological frameworks.
As part of what is intended to be an ongoing and evolving project this initial forum will provide an opportunity for an interdisciplinary exchange of ideas, research and practical frameworks. Through this trans-disciplinary interaction from differing contexts, disciplines, professions, and perspectives, delegates will have the opportunity to move beyond their own conceptual frameworks and share in a dialogue that challenges and extends their thinking and practice, as well as illuminating similarities and differences. As an initial focus for the forum discussion with selected delegates, arguable one of the world leaders in the related areas of relationships, education and authentic learning, Alfie Kohn will commence with a keynote presentation that is open to all interested parties.
Thus we invite you to become partners in this rich dialogue, in an intellectual and physical space conducive to vigorous and dynamic discussion. This three day project will seek to advance critical reflection and not criticism, understanding without adversarial encounters and collegial interaction that promotes new directions in regard to research and practice.
